What is Plan B?
By now you will have an idea what "Plan B" is for me. It is:
-
Not having a plan A - I semi-retired in 2015. I can confirm that the worst day's fishing is far better than a great day at the office.
-
Taking advantage of one of the best environments in the world - the sea. We both admire and fear the ocean. It demands respect.
-
Spectacular locations with scenery, sounds and smells to match. Having one of the world's best harbours at our fingertips is the envy of many.
-
Having enthusiastic mates from all walks of life to enjoy this with. Being at sea is a great leveller where background and status are irrelevant.
-
The birdlife. Watching small birds skimmimg the water, gannets dive-bombing from high above, annoying petrels attacking our baits, huge flocks of Sooty Shearwaters, terns busy dropping to catch surface-shoaling fish, shags being fed by us with only the best bait and on whole freshly-caught snapper seemingly impossible to swallow, and the unbiquitous penguins. I've ignored seagulls because they are common and too noisey!
-
The variety of fish and mammals, some to catch and some just simply awsome to watch.
-
The peace and serenity of being out at sea, albeit close to home.
-
Loads of stories to tell (complete with exaggeration of course)
